15 May 2010 Celebration of Richard Adams’ 90th Birthday

A crowd celebrate Richard Adams' 90th birthday at the White Hart

A crowd of artists and local residents gathered in the White Hart to celebrate Richard Adams’ 90th birthday. Graham Burgess, Whitchurch Arts’ Director of Arts introduced Richard and congratulated him on this special occassion. Richard is the receipient of the first annual Whitchurch Arts Award for Inspiration.

A collection of new paintings from the Whitchurch Arts ‘Off the Walls‘ project, run by Jude Price, were on display all around the room, and throughout the White Hart (new pieces were also hung at The Bell pub, just down the street).

One piece, though, was very special. It was unveiled by Andrew Reeves-Hall, chairman of Whitchurch Arts: it was a painting of Richard Adams made by local artist Steve Miller. more…

Local musicians, guitarist Sam Page and drummer Simon Nash, with their four-piece band The Fortunate recently won a talent competition (see article in the Basingstoke Gazette) and are off to the regional finals in Portsmouth on May 30.
If they win there, then they will be off to the national final in London in July where they can win a recording contract.
Congratulations!

05 Apr 2010 Bollards Art Project Truth

A project which is supported by Whitchurch Arts is being dragged into a political campaign. Whitchurch Arts is non-political, and it stands up for its artist members.

I have written to the North West Hampshire Conservative party, Tracey Kirk, asking for a retraction of the incorrect statements made about the Art Project which our Whitchurch Arts member, John Buckley, is involved with.

Information about the art project is at http://WhitchurchBollards.org.uk

Several concerned locals, including myself, have created a non-political campaign for truth.

Sincerely,
~Andrew~
Chairman, Whitchurch Arts

Update: The 15 April 2010 edition of the Basingstoke Gazette carried an article which quoted a politican making the same incorrect statements, and showed a peaceful protest which took place in front of a closed shop on Bank Holiday Easter Monday.

Update: In response to a polite request in June, some information was removed from this site in the hope that an atmosphere of calm can be formed while the positive work of painting bollards takes place!

Update: Sadly, the 1 July 2010 edition of the Basingstoke Gazette includes a statement from the Conservative candidate, which appears to be an attempt at trying to inflame tensions once again.

eigenlabs alpha-bigOkay, the title might be a stretch just to start each word with the musical scale…but the substance is pretty cool: a Devon based musician set up Eigenlabs with musicians and a development team to create a new instrument called an Eigenharp. The basic version, according to the BBC article is £349, the expensive ten times as much.

The BBC article (click HERE) includes photos and catchy tune played by an unnamed band.

If you buy one, then bring it along to one of our meetings to give us a demo!
