Sue Oakham | ~ Whitchurch Arts ~

Sue Oakham is an award-winning 3-D textile artist who works mainly in machine embroidery but also incorporates a wide variety of other techniques into her distinctive work. She has had her pieces exhibited; in the V&A in their Inspired by…collection; and has twice won the SEW Embroiderers Guild prize which is especially satisfying as the voting is by the members who do not know who has produced which piece. She has also won other national competitions and awards. Most recently, she won awards from and been featured in Stitch magazine and Embroiderers’ Handbook.

Sue is currently working on a book where she reveals her secrets. It delights her when she overhears people looking at her work who say “Surely that cannot be machine embroidery!”

Sue continuously develops her talent and is currently studying for an Advanced C&G in Heirloom Machine Embroidery.
