Catherine of Aragon garden designed by Graham Burgess with art by Whitchurch Arts artists shown on BBC2

A garden designed by Graham Burgess and displaying works of art by Whitchurch Artists was shown on BBC2 this evening.

The show made a brief visit to the 8 specially designed gardens based around Henry VIII’s ill-fated wives.

Graham’s was the first: Catherine of Aragon.

More is promised by BBC2 in episodes later this week.

Public art has hit the streets and ears of London until July 14.  There’s a fair few pianos to be found around the town (London that is) where anyone is free to play whatever and whenever.  Read about it on the BBC website HERE.

Next up?  Public tubas.  Okay, maybe just trumpets.

Another large piece of public art in the UK has been unveiled, this time its ‘The Dream’ in Merseyside – a 20m high sculpture of a nine-year-old girl’s face.

Over in Manchester, though, they are taking down the ‘B of the Bang’ after parts of it fell off, and the city sued group for breach of contract.

Don’t forget, too, that the Ebbsfleet Landmark, a giant horse will gallop onto a hill around 2012.

Any sculptures in Whitchurch going to propose something for us to enjoy?  There are plenty of hills all around town…

hamptoncourtpalaceflowershow2009-logoWhitchurch Arts members have won a prestigious place at this July’s Hampton Court Palace International Flower Show.

Graham Burgess, the chair of Whitchurch Arts, will be creating a garden for the show along with Whitchurch Arts member Stephen Miller and other local artists Paul Harvey and Shelley Gibb.

The garden is one of several that depict the life of King Henry VIII, who ascended to the throne 500 years ago this year.  Graham’s garden is all about Katherine of Arragon.

A nifty idea for a poetry challenge that serves a purpose: How to change a plug… in verse.

Have a look around your home or business now to find something that lists a bunch of steps (e.g. assembly instructions) or rules.  Then write a poem of your own on that topic, to liven it up!
