We met at the White Hart for our monthly meeting tonight.
Welcome to our new members!
Apologies came from Eric Dunlop (our treasurer), Julie Wild and John Buckley.
Stuff we chatted about:
- Earth Hour Art Event (it was a great success)
- Off the Walls
- Event at Gill Nethercott Centre on Sunday, 21 June for local businesses to see the artwork on offer to them (artists! Contact us to secure your spot!)
- We are seeking a skilled administrator / manager to run this – some volunteers to meet in coming week at Graham’s
- We have already £1000 for it with further grants applied for
- We need to consider processes, esp how to sell piece (e.g. person visiting from out of town wants to buy artwork immediately; versus local person who is willing to receive the artwork after a “show” of it at the local business is complete (e.g. a week / a month)
- Bollards
- Whitchurch Arts hopes to be selected to help bring one of our member’s ideas to fruition: Whitchurch Bollards
- Government grant is close to being finalized
- Hampton Court Palace Garden Show
- Congratulations to all the participating Whitchurch Arts members!
- Graham can get you in free if you promise to staff the garden for at least half of the day – contact us
- Meadow Loos
- Whitchurch Arts member Steve Miller will be painting the loo cabins on the Millennium Meadow
- Andrew suggested he also be hired to paint the fish gate colourfully, too
- Graham said the fencing at his Hampton Court Palace garden will be painted in different colours each side…maybe do the same for the fish gates?
- Artists pages on this website
- Every member of WhitchurchArts gets a free webpage under our ‘Artists’ section
- Please contact us with your biography and photos
- Two new pages just put up: Jude Price and Marsha Swanzy
- Forums
- There is a new online discussion place: WhitchurchForums.org.uk
- Artists Walk
- There are a fair number of people who walk through and around town
- Can Whitchurch Arts think of a way to promote local art to them?
- e.g. signs to direct them to businesses that are participating in ‘Off the Walls’?
- Shopping Bags with Art
- Wouldn’t it be great if art from our members adorned new environmentally friendly (reusable) shopping bags?
- e.g. stitch on some of Julie‘s work?
- Silk Mill grounds available for art show during Cultural Olympiad (24-26 July)
- Geoff Kelland has heard from the Silk Mill that they would be happy to let Whitchurch Arts use the grounds of the Silk Mill for an exhibition to coincide with the Cultural Olympiad on July 24th, 25th and 26th (free admission to Silk Mill that weekend)
- The Cultural Olympiad celebrates three years to go until the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympic Games
- London 2012 is setting a challenge for everyone to try something new, to challenge yourself, to take your event on to a new level, to make a leap forward and to keep pushing the boundaries as we get closer to 2012.
