This month’s meeting was at the White Hart tonight, starting just about on time at 7:30pm (there were a few of us wanting a pint). I forgot my nice camera, so just these ones from my new cellphone (modern phone, crappy built-in camera — it was much brighter in the room, really).
A very good turnout, as usual – about a dozen local artists. And at least a couple new joiners ~ Welcome!
There was some very good work on show, and some very good conversations between artists, after our business. Be sure to have a look at the new works by Chris and Julie in our our Artists pages.
And to the business:
1. Lock-up ~
- A local artist has some storage space available for hire which we could consider using
- Coordinators need to pop around to ensure it has room for the display boards, etc
- If suitable, then just need to negotiate the charge
2. Fishing For Art ~
- Lots of artists have signed up! Poems, pictures, music, paintings, drawings, …
- We need to figure out the children’s competitions!
- Saturday: “Meet Whitchurch Arts” is a chance for public to learn a bit about Whitchurch Arts (see Arts Project, below)
- Sunday: The main show…
- The Gill Nethercott Centre will be open at 8am on Sunday the 18th to set-up your stuff;
- Tear down is at 4pm (must be out by 4:30pm);
- Doors open to the public at 10:30am;
- The press are invited for 10:50am;
- Clacy’s Garage has donated the use of their van to help with moving display boards, screens (just need to pay for petrol) — thanks Clacy’s!
3. Community Arts Project Workshop (not organized by Whitchurch Arts)
- Its coming up on Saturday the 17th at the Gill Nethercott Centre starting at 10am
- Anyone in town welcome to go along
- There will be a workshop by Corinne Marsh
- Details are on TheWhitchurchWeb forum posting
4. Off the Walls ~
- We are wanting to get local art into the local businesses
- Several have agreed in principal to display works of art, and to sell them
- Businesses have final say as to what they would have in their establishments
- Whitchurch Arts retains 10% of the sale price; another 10% goes to the business; and remaining 80% goes to the artist
5. Banking ~
- Almost 2 months ago the coordinators of Whtichurch Arts tried to set up a bank account with Natwest (Andover)
- Supposedly they lost our information twice and then gave our treasurer a bit of a run around
- A local person works at HSBC and has given us info about a Community Account that would be suitable for us
- The artists at tonight’s meeting agreed and voted to open an account with HSBC instead
- Graham needs back account info for grants he is putting in for end of January (pay-out in May if we get it)
6. Photo Workshop ~
- A photo workshop by Tony Worobiec is planned for March
- Please contact us if you are interested in attending
- The workshop can be tailored — so also let us know if there is anything in particular you would like to get out of the workshop
7. Summer Exhibition ~
- Sunday 21 June 2009 at Gill Nethercott Centre
8. Website ~
- There is a new suppliers section~ Contact us if you supply artistic goods and want listed (fee may apply)
- Feedback and assistance is always welcome ~ contact us
