The cozy atmosphere of the Bell Pub Inn was the place to be for last night’s Whitchurch Arts meeting. Once again, local artists met to socialize and share creative ideas. There were new members and many of our regulars were there too; Eric, our treasurer, sent his appologies.
Here’s an update on the things goings on…
- We are persuing some grants (Graham had been sunning himself, purely for business reasons, in sunny, firey California for the past couple weeks though)
- Some of the items we would like to have: a projector and some frames / mountings (was it Tim or Steve who said they wanted a Jaguar? Probably some knock down prices in The City these days…)
- Speaking of frame ups:
- It’d sure be good to have a collection of various ones for loan from a “library” ~ but where to store them? A problem that shouldn’t be too hard to solve
- Tim suggested we look for some in second hand shops
- Steve suggested we check out Aquanti who make top-notch frames apparantly (anyone know how to spell that properly?)
- Perhaps a sponsor could be found? We need to also include frames in our grant applications
- Steve and Sue said they had some old mountings up in his loft which he might donate in order to get our library going
- The craft fair at Testbourne is coming up on Sat 22 November ~
- there was positive support for us to have a table there
- we’d display some art; and hand out application forms for the Christmas windows competition
- I (Andrew) then showed off this website and encouraged people to give me stuff to put up here
- Lou wondered if any statistics are available about visitors to this site…
- …there sure is! Here’s a sample of the stats taken from just now.
- Someone suggested to add an image of the day (the middle photo in the frame at the top is changeable ~ supply me with photos of your art and I can have it rotate in!)
- There is an ‘inspiration’ page which needs…some inspiration ~ please contact me with your ideas for places on the Internet to find inspiration (for anything artistic)
- Don’t forget Aldo’s show coming up in November!
- Graham will have his WSHK (wave, shake, hug, kiss) ribbons available for 20p starting real-soon-now
- The Neighbourhood Rocks installation is progressing too ~ a signt at the western edge of town has been identified and some fundraising will kick in soon; Graham would love to have people pace from the rock to a favourite place in town and record how many paces away it is…average out all the results and we’ll have established the “Whitchurch pace” measurement
- Our Pub Art event needs your, well, pub art to put up in various pubs during November’s beer festival
- Take photos, make drawings, etc in and around Whitchurch pubs
- Tell us and we will help to get them hung on a pub’s walls! Simple.
- Watch out for some painted bollards around town soon.
- Something fishy was discussed ~ a very creative idea!
- And as tradition dictates (3 meetings!) ~ we have a gawk at the art brought along…some great pieces that really show the talent in this town…watch for some photos in our Artists section!
The venue and date for the next meeting in November will be posted here soon.
