Members at the second ~ meeting look over some of the art and ideas brought in

We’re rolling now!  A merry time was had at last evening’s meeting in the Gill Nethercott Centre.  It was mostly a business-style discussion about funding and promoting the ideas people have already come up with.  Some artists brought along their work to show, too.

A quick survey of the group showed that four people knew about this website, including yours truly.  Well, its a start.

Here’s the scribbles that I managed to make; pardon the wine stains…

  • Whitchurch Ribbons ~ Graham is ordering the ribbons and getting them printed
  • Painted Bollards ~ John brought along a pamphlet with pictures of his art project plan
  • Neighbourhood Rocks ~ Graham described the idea of putting very large rocks at the gateways to the town; an article in a local rag introduced the idea to the world
  • Beer Festival ~ Pub Art about pub life is being encouraged during this year’s festival in November
  • Aldo Galli Show (Watership Down) ~ The date for the show has been set and national media informed (but Andrew Lloyd Webber will likely not be there)
  • Graham Burgess was confirmed as our chair.  We believe he is mahogany.
  • Eric Dunlop showed up and talked a bit about funding and grants.  People liked what he said, so he became treasurer.  He declared his pleasure to spend money.
  • Membership is £10 a year.  Yours truly, Andrew, is official member no.1 (even beating Graham to the sign-up list started on Eric’s notepad)
  • John Buckley drew our logo and made the posters ~ there was great rejoicing.  He should be our official drawer; or is it bureaux?.   Either way, it must be mahogany to match Graham.
  • I, Andrew Reeves-Hall, managed to talk enough about this website to have others tell me I should be the group’s secretary.  Two bad people don’t not know how puur I right and speek – let alone the fact that I am selectively deaf.  Some may even wish I was dumb.  Me thinks I shud just stick to the techie stuff.  John writes gooder than me, besides.
  • Lou Phillips emphasized that our “~” must be of wide scope to include more than just photographers and graphic designers.  John agreed strongly.  Even me, a photographer, agreed.  In fact, we all agreed.  So there.  Its official, then.
  • Rob Dunlop, of Whitchurch Carnival Procession and Pub Race fame, gave much input on how to be a successful group ~  We listened intently, but I think I must have been taking a sip of wine ’cause I haven’t written down anything more.  It was really, really important, too.  Damn.
  • I do remember, though, Rob telling us he played guitar; and that Eric does too ~  Something was said about Twang Rocks but then I started daydreaming about this week’s podcast from CBC radio 3.
  • Then again, something was said about Potato Days too.  I think we’re supposed to allot something or another for it.  Ah, plenty of time until January.
  • Lou reminded us about the Singing For Pleasure group ~ they should be engaged by us.  Personally, I think we’re too young for such a serious commitment.  At least we would have music at the reception, though.
  • Have you figured out yet that I ain’t not a guud secretary?  My jokes are awful.
  • WADS ~ now there is a group close to ARTS. They should be attracted to us.
  • Idea!  We should get some money, buy some amps and rent them out to musicians.  This must have been Rob’s idea.
  • We came back to the topic of funding a lot during the evening.  There’s a pot of money from SEEDA that is supposed to be for an art project in town.  Graham is going to try to find out more, and see if our group would be a good fit.
  • I’m supposed to describe this website at our next meeting ~ thankfully, we all forgot to set the date and place for it.  Probably closer to the end of October since Graham is going to Napa Valley California for a good chunk of October.  May he come back sober.  Someone suggested, over post-meeting drinks in The Bell Inn that a future meeting should be held at The Bell.  Fine by me, its just down the yard from my house; and they pour a tasty Goddards.
  • Lou asked who made the wonderful gates for the Millennium Meadow ~ Graham told us (and I forgot to write it down).  He reminded us that the first ones were stolen, but insurance came through and new ones were made (and welded in).
  • Idea! Graham thought a show of the other designs for a Meadow gate would go down well.  Noted.
  • We all then had a look at some of the Art brought along by members.  Many of us headed over to The Bell Inn for further deliberations.
  • Something really, really important was discussed at the pub, but damned if I can remember what it was now.

If you were at the meeting, then please leave a comment below to remind us all about things I didn’t jot down or remember.  Or just to rant.
